ABQ FOLK FEST Newsletter

A week to go! But there's plenty to do during this last week...like eating pizza to help the Festival (talk about win-wins). Or enjoying some great AFF performers while doing your grocery shopping. Or listening to Folk Festival news on the radio or TV.

Speaking of pizza, if you get this early enough, you may still have time to head down to Old Town Pizza Parlor today (May 23) to hear Russell Pyle of The Porter Draw perform, enjoy some pizza, and support the Folk Festival. Just bring in an AFF flyer, handbill, logo printed off the internet, or this flyer to show the restaurant that you are there to support AFF and 15% of your bill will be donated to our fest.

ABQ FOLK FEST News

In and Out!

Festival attendees have in-and-out privileges all day. When you come in, whether you purchased your ticket, are a performer, a presenter or a volunteer, you will receive a wristband and can come and go as you please.

Recycle!

This year we are proud to offer recycling at our festival. Help us make our festival a little more green and use the recycle bins for your plastic and aluminum. Be sure not to toss your non-recyclables into these bins--otherwise the whole bag will be considered garbage for the dump. So, just plastic and aluminum please!

Check Your Instruments!

A reminder to all musicians: Our Instrument Check (instrument day care center) will be open and ready to receive your instruments starting at 8 am on Saturday June 1, with a full staff of people ready and willing to safeguard your prized musical possessions. They may come and go as you wish throughout the day. However, please pick up your "little darlings" by 9 pm Saturday evening.

Feedback!

Every year, we try to get as much feedback as we can so we can improve the Festival for next year. You can help us by filling out a feedback card (available at the fundraising table inside the Balloon Museum). As an incentive, we'll draw a few cards Saturday evening for some prizes. This year, we'll also have a few volunteers with clipboards wandering the grounds asking questions. Answering won't take long and will help us make the Festival better.

ABQ FOLK FEST on the air!

You already know that KUNM is coming back to the Festival, and will be broadcasting live from the Mt. Taylor stage on Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30.

But you can catch us on the air before June 1:

  • Sunday, May 26 7-8 pm KSFR 101.1 FM (Santa Fe): Donna Howell will be talking about the Folk Festival and playing music by the performers on her program Gotta Dance. You can listen live at ksfr.org. Donna is a long-time supporter of the Festival; you'll often see her dancing to various bands, and she's leading the Zweifache dance workshop at 3:30 pm at the indoor dance venue at the Festival.
  • Thursday, May 30 7 am uPublicTV Comcast channels 26 and 27: Festival Director Gary Libman, Co-Director Rachel Zuback, and the Adobe Brothers will join Larry Ahrens on The Morning Brew. Get up bright and early, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy some music and chatting about the Folk Festival.

Last Chance for a "Free Sample"

Our last "Free Samples" before the Festival will be this Saturday, May 25. Enjoy some great music while you shop for groceries. Join Breaking Blue from 10 am to 12 noon at the La Montanita Co-op on Rio Grande. And then head over to the Carlisle Whole Foods for Wayne Shrubsall and Jimmy Abraham from 1 to 3 pm.

This program has been a great success. Thanks to all the musicians and volunteers for supporting free folk music samples in Albuquerque. And thanks to Jimmy Abraham for putting it all together.

Dining Out to Support ABQ FOLK FEST

We've added another restaurant (and yes, it's also Italian) to our dining out opportunities. So you'll have a chance to enjoy some great food while supporting the Folk Festival on three days next week! Put these dates on your calendar and bring your appetite! Who knew supporting the Folk Festival could be so delicious! Buon appetito!

  • Monday May 27 at Old Town Pizza Parlor (Rio Grande Blvd/Central)

AFF 2013 performance group Squash Blossom Boys will be performing on the patio. Just bring in an AFF flyer, handbill, logo printed off the internet, or this flyer to show the restaurant that you are there to support AFF and 15% of your bill will be donated to our fest.

  • Tuesday May 28 at Mario's Pizza (San Pedro and Uptown)

There's always room for more pizza. Join us at Mario's (across San Pedro from the Coronado Mall) for some yummy food. Just bring this flyer with you to show the restaurant that you're there to support the Folk Festival and Mario's will donate 15% of your bill to AFF.

  • Wednesday May 29 at Tomato Cafe (Paseo del Norte/ San Pedro)

How about an Italian all-you-can-eat buffet? Print this flyer and bring it with you to show the restaurant that you are there to support AFF and 15% of your bill will be donated to our fest.

  • Monday and Tuesday, June 3 and 4 at Il Vicino in the Heights (Juan Tabo and Montgomery)

Come join us to celebrate a successful Festival! Print this flyer and bring it with you to show the restaurant that you are there to support AFF and a portion of your bill will be donated to our fest. Help us get a running start on funds for next year's Festival!

For the Kids:

Kids are welcome anywhere at the Festival. They can listen and dance to the stage performers, and participate in the various workshops. And we have special things especially for the young or young at heart:

Giant Puppets: A big hit last year, Sunny Birklund's giant puppets are back this year. They start wandering the festival grounds around 10 on Saturday morning and will be there until around noon, so be sure and get to the Festival early. You and your kids can chat with the puppets, shake hands, share hugs, and take photos with silly poses.

Planet Music: Hands on with musical instruments from all over the world! Hosted by composer/musician Casey Mráz, you and your kids will be able to experience string, reed, and percussion instruments from around the globe.

Children's Tent: You and your kids can sing along with a ukulele band, learn a hula, join jazz singer Patty Stephens in a song spiral, and play and dance with family camp leader DeLaura Padovan.

AFF Bands Win New Mexico Music Awards

Congratulations to JeeZ LaWeeZ for winning a 2013 New Mexico Music Award for Best Video. You can watch the video on YouTube and catch JeeZ LaWeeZ live at the Festival on the Sandia Stage at 5:30 pm.

Also congratulations to Cathy Faber's Swingin' Country Band for winning a 2013 New Mexico Music Award for Best Country CD for Lights of Santa Fe. You can hear the band live at the Festival at the evening "Barn Dance Under the Stars" at the Dance Tent starting at 7:30.

Sing Out!

The early evening Sing-along has been a very popular event at the past few Festivals, and this year's promises to be better than ever. We'll be singing songs from 1963! Why 1963? Well, other than the fact that it was 50 years ago, we'll let organizer Dan Matthews explain: "The biggest event in folk music that year was the Newport Folk Festival in which Joan Baez (who was Bob Gibson’s guest at the first Newport Folk Festival in 1959) introduced Bob Dylan." Newcomers at Newport that year included Judy Collins, Peter, Paul & Mary, Phil Ochs, and Tom Paxton.

We'll be singing songs like "Green, Green", "Puff, the Magic Dragon", "Blowin' in the Wind", and "The Times They Are a Changin'". For more folk music history from 1963, a complete song list, and the lyrics to those songs, download Dan's handout (it'll also be available at the Sing-along).

And be sure to join us at the Sing-along: it'll start after the Band Scramble, sometime after 6:30 pm at the Jemez Stage.

Support Your Festival:

Donate!

As many of you know, the ABQ Folk Festival is 100% run by volunteers. Did you know that only 30% of our financial resources comes from ticket sales? That means we must fund 70% of our festival though grants, sponsorships and donations from supporters like you. Over the next few years, we’d love to see that ticket-sales dependency drop to zero as we lower the cost of the tickets down to Free. Please help us push toward that goal and consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the Albuquerque Folk Festival, a Not-for-Profit 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(2) Public Charity. We offer a variety of donor and sponsor opportunities at all levels of support for community-minded individuals and organizations. For more information, visit our website or contact us. Thank you for your patronage!

Sell (or donate!) an old instrument at our consignment sales booth!

Do you have some musical instruments that you aren't using? Help the Festival, help yourself, and declutter your instrument collection: bring those instruments to the Festival to sell at our consignment sales table. You get 80% of the proceeds, you get to donate 20% to the Festival, and you'll have room for new instruments! OR, are you looking to buy an instrument? Be sure to check the consignment sales table! You might find a great deal and you'll be helping the Festival: 20% of the sales price is donated to the Folk Festival. All sales are cash only. Please pick up your instruments or proceeds by 5 pm on Saturday.

Try your luck in the raffle!

Take a chance on winning a guitar or 10 hours of studio time. Buy some raffle tickets ($3 each or 4 for $10). You might win, and for sure you'll be helping the Festival, since the prizes are donated and all proceeds from the raffle benefit the AFF.

ABQ FOLK FEST Newsletter

We're counting the days! The program has gone to the printer. Plans are being finalized. We've filled up all the slots in all the venues. We're decorating the fences. This year's ABQ FOLK FEST promises to be better than ever!

What's in this issue:

ABQ FOLK FEST News

The Apron Project

This year, we're privileged to have a unique art display decorating our normally decidedly non-artistic chain link fencing. The Apron Project was on display at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in March, and we're going to have some of the beautiful hand-crafted aprons at the Festival.

Traditionally, aprons represent a woman's unpaid work, industriousness, nurturing, and her never-ending presence to comfort, create and care-take. Now aprons are having a comeback. A group of local Albuquerque artists are using the medium of the apron to express themes from women's lives, struggles and history. We hope you'll enjoy viewing this art. If you'd like a preview, check out the pictures here.

KUNM is back!

KUNM will be broadcasting live performances and interviews on their Folk Routes show at the ABQ FOLK FEST 10am-12pm. Come see them in action at the Mt. Taylor stage between 10:30 and 11:30 with Albuquerque's own Finn's Thumb. And if you can't make it to the Festival on Saturday morning, be sure to tune into KUNM's Folk Route show to catch a piece of the Albuquerque Folk Festival.

Stop the Presses!

No! Keep the presses running! But if you'd like to preview the Festival's program before you get to the Balloon Museum on June 1, you can download it here: ABQ FOLK FEST Program (pdf).

Recently Added Workshops

Dance: New Mexico Traditional Quadrilles: The High Desert Dancers have been added to the Festival Schedule. They will be at the indoor venue at 10:30 to demonstrate and teach the 5-part "Las Quadrillas," or 4 couple dance, from early Territorial northern New Mexico which they learned from Lorenzo Trujillo at last year's festival. The High Desert Dancers can be contacted through Jim Calvert, Director, at calvert390@yahoo.com or 1-505-869-639.

Children's Tent: Moving and Grooving with DeLaura Padovan: DeLaura has been sharing her enthusiasm and joy at family dance camps around the country for over 20 years. Kids of all ages will enjoy spending time with DeLaura. DeLaura and her husband Steve Hickman, who's presenting an old-time fiddle workshop at the Festival, are traveling around the Southwest this summer. We're delighted that they're making a stop in Albuquerque and joining us at ABQ FOLK FEST.

Eat Italian and Support ABQ FOLK FEST

AFF is grateful to have the support of many local businesses and individuals in Albuquerque. Some wonderful (and, in a total coincidence, all Italian) restaurants have partnered with us to give our supporters a chance to enjoy a delicious meal together with a portion of their bill being donated directly to the festival. So put these dates on your calendar and bring your appetite! Who knew supporting the Folk Festival could be so delicious! Buon appetito!

Volunteer Spotlight: Steve and Gretchen

ABQ FOLK FEST volunteers extraordinaire Steve and Gretchen invite you over to their house tonight, May 17, for a house concert featuring AFF performing bands Ladyfingers and the Adobe Brothers, along with Shlomo and the Adobes, with some members of both groups. Bring your own small chair, beverage, maybe a snack to share, and a $10 minimum donation to support the Albuquerque Folk Festival to 905 Sierra Place SE. See our previous newsletter for more details on the bands and the location.

consignment

Steve and Gretchen not only donate their house to benefit the Festival--they also donate their time all day at the Festival, running the Consignment Sales table. Consignment Sales provides new, loving homes for unwanted instruments and raises money for the Festival, with 20% of the proceeds going to the non-profit Albuquerque Folk Festival Inc. (Yes, that means the 20% is tax deductible.) So Steve and Gretchen want to remind you to clean out your closets and bring them your surplus instruments--they'll do their best to find them a good home. If you're looking for another instrument, check Consignment Sales first. And if you want to hang around with musicians, jamming on instruments, enjoying the community that is the Folk Festival, Consignment Sales is a great place to be.

Steve and Gretchen started the Consignment Sales table at the Folk Festival about seven years ago. It was a natural move for Gretchen, who's a regular at local flea markets and on eBay, buying and selling all kinds of things, including musical instruments, tools, clothes, and furniture. In addition to their work for the Folk Festival, they also volunteer for the Outpost (where they met years ago), the Santa Fe Opera, and other community groups.

Join Steve and Gretchen tonight, Friday, May 17 for a great concert at their house, and be sure to check out Consignment Sales at the Festival this year!

Ladyfingers

Ladyfingers2013

Ladyfingers is a four-piece women's ensemble specializing in fun and lively world folk music. From mazurkas to gypsy to traditional and popular tunes, the Ladyfingers' versatility spans from tasteful instrumental music to boisterous bar and party entertainment with an occasional special guest.

With all band members hailing from the Albuquerque area, Ladyfingers features Pat Aruffo’s sultry fiddle, Barb Belknap’s twinkling mandolin, Erika Gerety’s belt-out double bass, and Gretchen Newman’s solid rhythm guitar. Singing and harmonizing abound.

Shlomo and the Adobes

shlomoadobes

Comprised of three members of the Adobe Brothers, on banjo and balalaika, Moby Adobe (Wayne Shrubsall), on fiddle, Toby Adobe (Bruce Thomson) and on guitar, Jacoby Adobe (Jimmy Abraham) and two other members, vocalist and on bass Hot Flash Adobe (Erika Gerety) and on autoharp and clarinet, Shlomo Adobe (Gary Libman). The group plays many Eastern European Klezmer favorites for special occasions and are regulars in the Road Scholar (Elderhostel) Programs of Albuquerque.

The Adobe Brothers

adobebrothers

The Adobe Brothers is a band of identical quadruplets born to different mothers a long time ago: Jacoby Adobe (Jimmy Abraham) on vocals, guitar, fiddle, and harmonica, Moby Adobe (Wayne Shrubsall) on vocals, banjo, and guitar, Pierogi Adobe (Terry Bluhm) on vocals and bass, and Toby Adobe (Bruce Thompson) on vocals, fiddle, and guitar. Though the Brothers’ musical style might be best categorized as Americana, a typical performance will include tunes and songs from a half dozen countries, as well as material ranging from 19th century Child Ballads to original composition by the boys. The Brothers refer to their music as “International Bluegrass.” Their fundamental musical philosophy is “if it sounds good and is fun to play, we’ll play it.”

At the Festival: Fundraising Raffle

Prizes:

Tickets will be on sale at the Festival for $3 each or 4 tickets for $10. You can buy raffle tickets at the information and feedback table. Winners will be announced at the end of the Band Scramble/Sing Along (need not be present to win).

Folk Festival Receives Grant from Music Guild

The Albuquerque Folk Festival has once again been the recipient of a grant from the Music Guild of New Mexico.

The Music Guild will be presenting their award to this year’s Festival Director and Board Treasurer, Gary Libman, at their annual May luncheon on May 8, 2013. The grant will be used to continue our mission of our national, regional and local presenters and festival goers’ participatory involvement of singing, dancing and playing music in our area. The Music Guild’s mission is to fund programs that educate, engage and enrich the New Mexico music community, so it’s a great honor to receive their recognition on behalf of our 600+ volunteers who tirelessly work for free to put on the annual festival every June at the Balloon Museum.

New Venue: Unplugged Outlet

We just keep growing!

The Jam with the Band venue is moving outside but, we're keeping the inside venue for an acoustic performance stage: the Unplugged Outlet. So, this year, we'll have more performers than ever and you'll continue to have music to enjoy while you're checking out the inside vendors, visiting the information booth, or just enjoying the air conditioning.

For a complete schedule for the Unplugged Outlet acoustic stage, see our website.

Sign-Up Stage Returns

We are very pleased to bring back the beautiful Curly Musgrave Mobile Stage to ABQ Folk Fest 2013 for our Sign-Up Stage performers. If you haven’t seen this stage, wait until you do! Providing a colorful whimsical, western setting with a beautiful New Mexican sunset and blooming cactus along with a tumbleweed or two, this venue is an opportunity for you (yes, you) to sign up and perform for 30 minutes on this awesome stage, using our professional sound system and operator. So musicians, singers, dancers, storytellers, and others with folk-related talents, don’t forget to visit our Information Table to sign up for your 30-minutes of fame! Huge thanks to Gary Roller and Melody Time Ranch for working with us again this year.

Folk Festival Receives Bravos Award

The Bravos Awards from Creative Albuquerque were awarded at a banquet dinner last month in the Albuquerque Museum. Among the award recipients at the dinner was the 2013 People’s Award Bravos Winner, the Albuquerque Folk Festival. We were honored to receive the award which shows that we are very community oriented in our participatory festival. The fact that this was recognized by the Albuquerque Community was most gratifying for all of us volunteers who put on the festival every year, the first weekend in June, at the Albuquerque Balloon Museum.

Thanks to all of you who voted for us for the People's Choice award. It gave us a lot of visibility in the arts community and beyond.

Featured Headliner: Peter Ostroushko and Dean Magraw

We are extremely pleased and excited to present as one of our headlining performances this year world-renowned mandolinist and violinist Peter Ostroushko and master guitarist Dean Magraw as they reunite forces to bring us what will surely be an eclectic, delightful and exciting presentation of expert musicianship.

Peter Ostroushko is regarded as one of the finest mandolin and fiddle players in acoustic music. As one critic said: “Peter Ostroushko can play anything! And usually does.” His tours have taken him across North America and Europe; he has played on over a thousand albums and earned an international reputation as a versatile and dazzling master of instrumentation and composition.

Composer/Guitarist Dean Magraw’s musical passion transcends all boundaries, yet the vital essence of his distinctive style remains, while performing and recording solo, with numerous regional ensembles, and on projects with international notables.

Said Chicago Trubune critic about Ostroushko and Magraws 1995 collaboration album Duo, “Ostroushko's originals are born sounding instantly antique, although his sense of humor keeps everything fresh. Few can drive a vamp as powerfully as fiddler/mandolinist Ostroushko, and when guitarist Dean Magraw adds his steaming rhythm to the mix, they sound like a pair of tornadoes."

Peter will also lead a workshop at the Festival. Don't miss it: 2:30 pm in Workshop 5 (Indoors).

Shall We Dance?

By Patsy Gregory, Dance Manager

Dancing is an important part of Albuquerque Folk Festival! This year we have 15 dance workshops and 2 evening dances at 2 venues, one upstairs indoors, and one just outside the lower north exit of the Museum. Eleven of the workshops are either new dance forms or new presenters, with four new workshops.

For set dance enthusiasts we have Irish Ceili with Norita Callahan, “Dare to be Square” with Kris Jensen, Scottish Country Dance with Kenneth Armstrong, and Contra Dance with Erik Erhardt, a local caller, and the Thrifters band from Santa Fe. Erik will get everybody all set for the evening FolkMADS Megaband Contra Dance called by DeLaura Padovan coming to us from Virginia.

For couple dancers, we have two new dance forms: Cross Step Waltz presented by Gary Diggs, and Chacarera, a famous foklore dance from Argentina, presented by The Tango Club of Albuquerque. We'll also have the catchy rhythms of the Zwiefacher presented by Donna Howell and Mad Robin, Scandinavian Dance with Craig Olsen (they may also do some set dancing), and, of course, Susan and Gary Kellogg will be presenting a Country Western Swing workshop to get everybody ready for the ADC co-sponsored evening Barn Dance with Cathy Faber’s Swingin’ Country Band, a big success last year. Please remember that you do not need to bring a partner with you for these workshops: come and meet a new partner!

For dancers who like either individual or non-couple dances from around the world, we will have Hawaiian Hula with Cindi Heffner, Belly Dancing with a Veil with Joy Germack and Sadaqah, International Folk Dance (may sneak in a couple dance) with Bill Croft and Noralyn Parsons, Irish Step Dance with Jennifer London and Kim Coleman, and Yiddish Dance with Rikud Yiddish Dancers and the Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer Band all returning from last year. Also, we are very pleased to announce that we will have the Racine Kreyol Drum and Dance Ensemble returning from two years ago to present Haitian Dance.

For times, places, and more details, check out our new and improved website.

AFF to Raffle a Guitar!

Stanley Burg, owner of Guitar Vista, generously donated a guitar to the Albuquerque Folk Festival. We will raffle the guitar to support our non-profit festival to continue to bring joy, while we also find a lovely home for the guitar where it will also bring joy. Thanks Stan! The guitar is a Eastman Dreadnought, model AC120, with a hard shell case. More information on the raffle to come. Stay tuned!

Call for Volunteers

Join the 700+ volunteers that currently produce and present the ABQ Folk Festival. In exchange for at least 3 hours of your time, you will gain free admission, a free t-shirt, and have a lot of fun with a great group of music and community-lovers! We are 100% volunteer-run, and while we have an impressive list of wonderful volunteers from previous years, we can always use more help. If interested in getting involved, send your name, e-mail and cell phone or other preferred phone to volunteers@abqfolkfest.org.

Voting Opportunity

First a big thank you to all of you who voted for the Albuquerque Folk Festival as your favorite festival in the annual Albuquerque Magazine's "best of city" issue in 2012. As many of you know, we came in 2nd out of all the festivals in the city of Albuquerque! We were only beaten by the Weem's ArtFest.  Not too shabby!

Well, here's another opportunity for you to vote for the Albuquerque Folk Festival. On March 23, Creative Albuquerque (formerly the Arts Alliance) will present its annual Creative Bravos Awards to a variety of individuals and organizations. One of the Bravos Awards, the People's Choice, is determined by an open, online voting procedure. Anyone may vote for a candidate of his/her own choosing
once a day every day between now and January 23. Simply go to www.creativeabq.org, scroll down the homepage to the paragraph on the People's Choice Award, click on the link to the ballot and give us your vote(s).

Receiving such a prestigious award will be very important for our festival as we celebrate our FIFTEENTH anniversary of the ABQ Folk Festival.

So help us out again...PLEASE.

Sneak Peak

We are very close to finalizing much of the incredible performance talent for this year's festival on June 1. We are close to confirmations and should be able to start releasing the information soon. We can’t wait for you to experience this year’s line-up. We think you will be very pleased.

Here’s a sneak peak at a couple of confirmed acts (dozens more to come):

Consuelo Luz: See her website: www.consueloluz.com

Consuelo is a Chilean-Cuban singer/songwriter who explores her Sephardic roots, adapting ancient Jewish prayers and ballads from Spain, the Mediterranean and the Middle East into new "World Music" style songs in a passionate marriage of Jewish and Latin soul.

The Green Billies: Check them out at www.facebook.com/greenbillies

The Green Billies play old-timey fiddle, banjo and guitar hillbilly music from the land of "red or green." Born from late-night old-time music jams, The Green Billies bring the energetic "fiddle 'n' banjo" dance music of the East Coast to the ears of New Mexico.

Guitar Vista new location

We would like the community to know that one of our big supporters, Guitar Vista, is moving locations. They're moving from Monte Vista SE to 3117 Silver SE (between Richmond and Bryn Mawr) as of January 16th. Stanley Burg, the owner, would like everyone to know that there is ample free parking at the new site, and there will be workrooms suitable for jamming/playing, etc. Drop in and say "hi" to Stan for us and tell him that the Albuquerque Folk Festival sent you. You will like what you see there!!!!

Make it a weekend!

Remember that the festival is really a weekend affair now. While the festival itself is only on one day, we'll continue what we did last year and have FREE camping on the Balloon Museum grounds.  Last year lots of you came and joined our open jams of singing, dancing and playing. We're expecting even more people this year.

REMEMBER...WE'RE THE PREMIER PARTICIPATORY FOLK FESTIVAL VENUE IN THE AREA. So pencil us in for the weekend of May 31, festival on June 1 and ending on June 2. Fun for everyone in the family.

About the Albuquerque Folk Festival

The AFF is a true labor of love for the many event volunteers, volunteer managers, and volunteer board members who pool their optimism, energy, and dedication to create this unique and wonderful festival. As with any non-profit, we continue to need community volunteer and financial support. If you are interested in helping by being a manager (or any other way), please let us know.

Also, remember, ticket sales cover only about 25% of the cost of the Festival. The balance comes from gifts from individuals like you, business advertising and sponsorships, and grants. Your generous gift of $5, $10, $50 or more would be greatly appreciated! Click on this link for a secure site where you can give to the Festival using your major credit card or Pay Pal account: Donate Now! If you'd prefer, send a check to AFF c/o Gary Libman, Treasurer, 25 Casa Hermosa, ABQ, NM 87112.

We'd like to thank our sponsors:

December 2012

Please take this last opportunity, for your 2012 tax year, to donate
to our community's non-profit Albuquerque Folk Festival.

The festival this year was AWESOME, with our new venue (the Balloon
Museum), our new stages (Sandia, Monzano, Mt. Taylor), our new date
(first weekend of June), our new free camping opportunity for the
entire weekend, and new workshops, presenters, a lot of local talent,
etc. The Board of Directors is planning on having the 2013 Festival
be even more spectacular, in the same venue and the same weekend
(June 1, 2013).

We cannot put these festivals on without support from our community.
So as this eventful year of 2012 comes to a close, please think about
sending a donation of any size to the ABQ Folk Festival c/o Gary
Libman, Treasurer of AFF, 25 Casa Hermosa, ABQ, NM 87112.

We'll be sending you periodic announcements of the festival all
during the first part of next year.

Regards,
Gary
Festival Director and Treasurer of the Board of Directors
