Voting Opportunity

First a big thank you to all of you who voted for the Albuquerque Folk Festival as your favorite festival in the annual Albuquerque Magazine's "best of city" issue in 2012. As many of you know, we came in 2nd out of all the festivals in the city of Albuquerque! We were only beaten by the Weem's ArtFest.  Not too shabby!

Well, here's another opportunity for you to vote for the Albuquerque Folk Festival. On March 23, Creative Albuquerque (formerly the Arts Alliance) will present its annual Creative Bravos Awards to a variety of individuals and organizations. One of the Bravos Awards, the People's Choice, is determined by an open, online voting procedure. Anyone may vote for a candidate of his/her own choosing
once a day every day between now and January 23. Simply go to www.creativeabq.org, scroll down the homepage to the paragraph on the People's Choice Award, click on the link to the ballot and give us your vote(s).

Receiving such a prestigious award will be very important for our festival as we celebrate our FIFTEENTH anniversary of the ABQ Folk Festival.

So help us out again...PLEASE.

Sneak Peak

We are very close to finalizing much of the incredible performance talent for this year's festival on June 1. We are close to confirmations and should be able to start releasing the information soon. We can’t wait for you to experience this year’s line-up. We think you will be very pleased.

Here’s a sneak peak at a couple of confirmed acts (dozens more to come):

Consuelo Luz: See her website: www.consueloluz.com

Consuelo is a Chilean-Cuban singer/songwriter who explores her Sephardic roots, adapting ancient Jewish prayers and ballads from Spain, the Mediterranean and the Middle East into new "World Music" style songs in a passionate marriage of Jewish and Latin soul.

The Green Billies: Check them out at www.facebook.com/greenbillies

The Green Billies play old-timey fiddle, banjo and guitar hillbilly music from the land of "red or green." Born from late-night old-time music jams, The Green Billies bring the energetic "fiddle 'n' banjo" dance music of the East Coast to the ears of New Mexico.

Guitar Vista new location

We would like the community to know that one of our big supporters, Guitar Vista, is moving locations. They're moving from Monte Vista SE to 3117 Silver SE (between Richmond and Bryn Mawr) as of January 16th. Stanley Burg, the owner, would like everyone to know that there is ample free parking at the new site, and there will be workrooms suitable for jamming/playing, etc. Drop in and say "hi" to Stan for us and tell him that the Albuquerque Folk Festival sent you. You will like what you see there!!!!

Make it a weekend!

Remember that the festival is really a weekend affair now. While the festival itself is only on one day, we'll continue what we did last year and have FREE camping on the Balloon Museum grounds.  Last year lots of you came and joined our open jams of singing, dancing and playing. We're expecting even more people this year.

REMEMBER...WE'RE THE PREMIER PARTICIPATORY FOLK FESTIVAL VENUE IN THE AREA. So pencil us in for the weekend of May 31, festival on June 1 and ending on June 2. Fun for everyone in the family.

About the Albuquerque Folk Festival

The AFF is a true labor of love for the many event volunteers, volunteer managers, and volunteer board members who pool their optimism, energy, and dedication to create this unique and wonderful festival. As with any non-profit, we continue to need community volunteer and financial support. If you are interested in helping by being a manager (or any other way), please let us know.

Also, remember, ticket sales cover only about 25% of the cost of the Festival. The balance comes from gifts from individuals like you, business advertising and sponsorships, and grants. Your generous gift of $5, $10, $50 or more would be greatly appreciated! Click on this link for a secure site where you can give to the Festival using your major credit card or Pay Pal account: Donate Now! If you'd prefer, send a check to AFF c/o Gary Libman, Treasurer, 25 Casa Hermosa, ABQ, NM 87112.

We'd like to thank our sponsors:

December 2012

Please take this last opportunity, for your 2012 tax year, to donate
to our community's non-profit Albuquerque Folk Festival.

The festival this year was AWESOME, with our new venue (the Balloon
Museum), our new stages (Sandia, Monzano, Mt. Taylor), our new date
(first weekend of June), our new free camping opportunity for the
entire weekend, and new workshops, presenters, a lot of local talent,
etc. The Board of Directors is planning on having the 2013 Festival
be even more spectacular, in the same venue and the same weekend
(June 1, 2013).

We cannot put these festivals on without support from our community.
So as this eventful year of 2012 comes to a close, please think about
sending a donation of any size to the ABQ Folk Festival c/o Gary
Libman, Treasurer of AFF, 25 Casa Hermosa, ABQ, NM 87112.

We'll be sending you periodic announcements of the festival all
during the first part of next year.

Regards,
Gary
Festival Director and Treasurer of the Board of Directors
